Look! A new song. It is made of limericks, eleven of them in fact. <\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/track=1053660907\/size=large\/bgcol=333333\/linkcol=b4cec0\/tracklist=false\n\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" seamless><a href=\"http:\/\/jermboor.bandcamp.com\/track\/eleven-lenten-limericks\">Eleven Lenten Limericks by Jerm Boor<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Like another song of mine, this one began with an intentional misreading of the letters of Herman Melville. It started out whimsical and only slightly introspective, but became more Lenten as it went on, perhaps because it was in fact Lent.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the words:<\/p>\n<p>Well he has but a mouthful of brains<br \/>\nWho has never been glad when it rains,<br \/>\nWho has never been cold<br \/>\nWhen the strains of the old<br \/>\nPannikhida invade his refrains.<\/p>\n<p>And he has but a thimble of grit<br \/>\nWho has never surrendered his wit<br \/>\nTo the song of the loon<br \/>\nAnd the waves and the moon<br \/>\nAnd the shimmer that swims under it.<\/p>\n<p>And his conscience is lazy and bad<br \/>\nWho has never supposed himself mad<br \/>\nAnd who gluey with wine<br \/>\nWhen the sun doesn&#8217;t shine<br \/>\nIn the mornings has never been sad.<\/p>\n<p>(mm-hmm hmm-hm-hm hm-hm-hm hmm)<\/p>\n<p>There are songs about perfect intentions<br \/>\nOf which most are post-factum inventions.<br \/>\nThey dangle their tropes<br \/>\nLike a puppeter&#8217;s ropes<br \/>\nAs they angle for honorable mentions.<\/p>\n<p>And he can&#8217;t see the woods for the trees<br \/>\nWho can squarely discern his disease<br \/>\nAnd can stake out his goal<br \/>\nIn the terms of control<br \/>\nBut can not bring his soul to her knees.<\/p>\n<p>And he can&#8217;t see the trees for the wood<br \/>\nWho can plainly perceive his own good<br \/>\nBut who waits for the rains<br \/>\nTo produce all the gains<br \/>\nAnd he never shall do as he should.<\/p>\n<p>(mm-hmm hmm-hm-hm hm-hm-hm hmm)<\/p>\n<p>And his system is far too complete<br \/>\nBe it ever so clean and discrete<br \/>\nIf he hides his travail<br \/>\nIn a mystical veil<br \/>\nAnd he can&#8217;t find the way to his feet.<\/p>\n<p>He has lost the best half of his  mind<br \/>\nWho can never regard himself blind;<br \/>\nBut he sets up his eye<br \/>\nOn a pole in the sky,<br \/>\nDropping answers on all he can find.<\/p>\n<p>And his heart has seen seventeen hells<br \/>\nWho can not tell the wind from the swells<br \/>\nTil he fixes his sight<br \/>\nOn some heavenly light<br \/>\nFor his life is a long Dardanelles.<\/p>\n<p>(mm-hmm hmm-hm-hm hm-hm-hm hmm)<\/p>\n<p>And so after all that, here you are.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m surprised that you made it this far.<br \/>\nI might have rescinded<br \/>\nA song so long-winded,<br \/>\nBut I like to play the guitar.<\/p>\n<p>And there was an old poet called Boor<br \/>\nWhose limericks none could endure.<br \/>\nHis metre was cloying.<br \/>\nHis rhymes were annoying.<br \/>\nAt least his intentions were pure. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Look!
